Dear 1R Families,
Welcome to first grade. My name is Emily Redburn and I will be your child’s first grade teacher this year. This will be my 13th year teaching first grade at Heath School. Last year, I took a leave of absence to travel around the world. I just returned last month and am beyond excited to return to my home away from home at Heath. I am looking forward to a successful year of learning and growing together. This year will be full of new experiences for your child: new friends, new challenges, and new teachers! First grade is a pivotal year for your child’s social and academic development in which your child will grow as a reader, writer, mathematician, and critical thinker. First graders take their first solid steps toward fluid reading. They begin to grasp more abstract mathematical concepts. They will also become more responsible and self-reliant as they learn to manage their time and materials independently. It will be a wonderful year as you see some of these changes seem to click overnight! As we begin a new year together, I am very excited to be working in partnership with you in order to help your child achieve and succeed as much as possible. In order for me to do the best job I can of nurturing, as well as educating your child, I would like for you to complete a short, online questionnaire. What are the things you, as a parent or guardian, would like me to know? I would love to know how your child thinks, feels, plays, and how you see your child as a learner. What are your goals for your child this year? The form can be found here. Thank you in advance for completing the form! As school nears, I would like to invite you and your children into 1R in order to get a sneak peek of our classroom on Thursday, September 1st from 2:00-2:30. I can’t wait to meet each of you (or see you again for familiar faces). If you are unable to come to the Sneak Peek, you can check back here for pictures/videos of the classroom in late August. You should also feel free to email me if you have any questions before school starts. Emily Redburn [email protected] |
